Whereas và While mang nghĩa đối lập
Ngoài nghĩa thời gian ('trong khi'), 'while' và 'whereas' còn dùng để diễn tả sự ĐỐI LẬP giữa hai ý/hai sự việc (nghĩa gần với 'but', 'on the other hand').

S1 + V1, while/whereas + S2 + V2 (hai ý đối lập, không liên quan thời gian).
Khi nào dùng
Dùng khi muốn so sánh/đối chiếu hai sự việc, hai nhóm đối tượng khác nhau; 'whereas' thường trang trọng hơn 'while' khi dùng với nghĩa đối lập này.

The new system is fast, whereas the old one was slow.
Hệ thống mới nhanh, trong khi hệ thống cũ thì chậm.

Lưu ý
- 'While/whereas' mang nghĩa đối lập khác với nghĩa thời gian thông thường của 'while'.
- 'Whereas' thường dùng trong văn viết trang trọng hơn 'while' khi diễn tả đối lập.
