AMany companies now run formal mentorship programs that pair a new employee with someone who has worked there for several years. The goal is to help the new person settle in faster and feel less lost during the first few months.
BA good mentor does more than explain company rules. They also help the junior employee understand unwritten habits, like which meetings really matter or how a particular manager prefers to receive feedback.
CThese programs sometimes fail when the pairing feels forced, especially if the mentor and the new employee have little in common or rarely find time to actually meet. A mentorship that exists only on paper does not help anyone.
DCompanies that run successful programs usually give mentors a small amount of time off their normal workload for meetings and check in regularly to see whether the pairing is actually working, rather than assuming it is fine once it starts.
