AOnline shopping has made buying almost anything easy, but it has also made returning items a normal part of shopping. Many stores now expect that a share of what they sell will come back within a few weeks.
BFree returns were once a popular way for stores to attract customers, since buyers felt safer ordering clothes or shoes without trying them on first. Shoppers could simply send back anything that did not fit.
CLately, though, more stores have begun charging small fees for returns. Processing a returned item costs money: someone must check it, repackage it, and often resell it at a lower price, so stores look for ways to cover these costs.
DExperts advise shoppers to read a store's return policy carefully before buying, especially for sale items, which are sometimes final and cannot be sent back at all. Knowing the rules in advance can save both money and frustration.
