AMany employees wait quietly for years, hoping a boss will notice their hard work and offer a promotion without being asked. In most companies, however, waiting silently rarely leads to a new title or more pay.
BInstead, it helps to ask for a short meeting and clearly say what you want. Saying "I would like to talk about moving into a senior role" is much clearer than hinting and hoping the boss understands.
CBefore the meeting, it also helps to write down two or three clear examples of good work from the past year, such as finishing a hard project early or helping a new coworker learn the job.
DIf the answer is no this time, asking what skills to improve for next time is still useful. A clear "not yet, but here is what to work on" is better than staying confused for another year.
